Vermont Outdoor Art

Through natural and manmade works of sculpture, The Path of Life Garden represents the journey of life. The visitor is allowed the opportunity to explore life through art. Eighteen phases are located on 14 acres linked together by a winding path from site to site. Among the phases of life represented in the Garden are Hope, Sorrow and Death. Hope is comprised of three Tori gates and a Vermont prayer wheel, giving the visitor the opportunity to wish for well being and good fortune. Sorrow is represented by a single Teepee that is indicative of Native Americans and their suffering, serving as a symbol of the personal losses we have all experienced. Death is signified in the Garden by a grove of gnarled, dead maple trees standing together. The texture of the wood is meant to convey life, while the trees themselves symbolize strength. Other phases represented in the Garden include Birth, Adventure, the Hill of Learning, the Tree of Wisdom, Creativity, Union, Family, Community, Solitude, Ambition, Forgiveness, Joy, Respite, Contemplation and Rebirth. On average, it takes 30-40 minutes to view the 18 areas of the Garden, but we welcome visitors to stay as long as they would like to enjoy the journey and relax without the pressure of time. Signposts and maps lead the way.
