Beware of Email Scams

Everyday I get scam emails (like the one below) and sometimes they are very convincing! I am often tempted to click on these emails and see what is going on, BUT DO NOT DO THIS! read below.

HOW TO RECOGNIZE

To the left is an example of what you might see: an email that looks like it is from EBAY... and very convincing. What is the goal of the scammer? To steal your username and password so they can order free products on your account!!

1) the email address looks like it is from an official company you deal with, in this case EBAY, but it could be one of your credit cards, PAYPAL, etc...etc...

2) it is addressed to you

3) it has official graphics and logo's and "the look" of the real company, but it is NOT!

4) they write a convincing letter that sounds "logical" and "real" but it is NOT! Don't believe a word of it!

5) there is always a link to click that looks like an official company link, but it is NOT! it takes you to a page where you would log in with your username and password, and then they capture YOUR INFORMATION that will allow them to steal from you!!

NEVER EVER click on these links!! Even if you are curious, they can tell that you clicked the link, and therefore know they have an "active email address"

If you are worried the message is real, THIS IS WHAT YOU DO: you go to your web browser and log into the site mentioned in the email, then see if there are any company messages... 99% of the time there will be no official message from say EBAY, or the company at issue in scam email.
